Just made public, the results of Heath Ledger’s autopsy tell that the actor’s death on January 22nd was due to an accidental overdose of prescription drugs.

“Mr. Heath Ledger died as the result of acute intoxication by the combined effects of oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam, and doxylamine,” spokesperson Ellen Borakove released in a statement on Wednesday morning .

“We have concluded that the manner of death is accident, resulting from the abuse of prescription medications,” the statement added.

According to People magazine, unnamed police sources had previously told the Associated Press that

“the actor had six prescription drugs, including anti-anxiety medications and sleeping pills.”

In response to the results, Heath’s family released the following statement:

“We remain humble as parents and a family, among millions of people worldwide who may have suffered the tragic loss of a child. Few can understand the hollow, wrenching, and enduring agony parents silently suffer when a child predeceases them. Today’s results put an end to speculation, but our son’s beautiful spirit and enduring memory will forever remain in our hearts. While no medications were taken in excess, we learned today the combination of doctor-prescribed drugs proved lethal for our boy. Heath’s accidental death serves as a caution to the hidden dangers of combining prescription medication, even at low dosage.

“Our family enjoyed an extremely happy two week visit with Heath just prior to the New Year. Those recent precious days will stay with us forever. We as a family feel privileged to have some of his amazing magic moments captured in film. To most of the world Heath was an actor of immeasurable talent and promise. To those who knew him personally, Heath was a consummate artist whose passions also included photography, music, chess and directing. We knew Heath as a loving father, as our devoted son, and as a loyal and generous brother and friend.

“We treasure our beautiful granddaughter Matilda (to our dear Michelle) as well as an unbelievably wonderful network of close friends, forever, around the world. Families rarely experience the uplifting, warm and massive outpouring of grief and support as have we, from every corner of the planet. This has deeply and profoundly touched our hearts and lives. We are eternally grateful.

“At this moment we respectfully request the worldwide media allow us time to grieve privately, without the intrusions associated with press and photography.”

He was only 28 years old, so was it drugs or natural causes?

TMZ says, it’s now appearing that the level of toxicity (from medication) in Ledger’s system was low enough that it may not have caused his death. These sources say Heath’s heart stopped. It could have been a heart attack but it’s not certain, at least not yet. Although it’s bizarre that a 28-year-old could die of natural causes, it happens.

There is no offical word on how he died yet. The autopsy is still to be performed! I guess we just have to wait and find out once the autopsy is done.

It’s still really early to be coming to any serious conclusions about Heath Ledger’s tragic death yesterday.  The latest update is that NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly announced that a rolled-up $20 bill was found near the late actor’s body.

In addition, Kelly revealed that “no testing has been done for narcotics at this time,” referring to the rolled-up bill.  And an autopsy came back with inconclusive results.

As for the pills found in Heath’s apartment,

“Some of them were sleeping pills, in essence, and some other drugs there as well. … We are going to wait for the toxicology report.”

There were also several packets of an unknown substance recovered from the Ledger’s home. 

For now, Heath’s body has been released to a New York City funeral home, although the exact details still have not been released.

Brokeback Mountain will be the performance that goes down in the history books to remember the life and career of Heath Ledger.  Many critics had questioned his talent as an actor leading up to his role as a gay cowboy, but the sheer brilliance of his grace on the silver screen won even the most hardened critics over. 

Despite this role bringing Ledger his only Oscar nomination, he gave many other performances that are worthy of mentioning.

In his first Hollywood film, 10 Things I Hate About You, Ledger stole the hearts of many teenage girls, and was immediately cast as a romantic hero in movies to follow (Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew, The Patriot, A Knight’s Tale, and Casanova).  As Ledger’s career progressed, he made an honest attempt to take on roles that were more “out side of the box”, so to speak, from his traditional romantic pin-up role.

In 2005, a little known movie outside of Generation Y was produced, The Lords of Dogtown.  This movie about the creation of skateboarding turning into the organized sport it is today, is arguably the best performance of his career.  Ledger plays the owner of a skateboard shop in late 70’s California that sponsors a team (group of local riders) to compete in the first organized competitions of its kind. If you’ve never had the chance to see this movie, it’s highly recommended that you make a trip to the video store to check it out.

Unfortunately, we’ll no longer be able to enjoy the flashes of brilliance that Ledger gave to us on the big screen due to his shocking death at the young age of 28. On the bright side, however, Heath will always live on in film and, more importantly, in his beautiful daughter Mathilda Ledger.

Update: On a medical note, breaking reports tell: “An autopsy on Heath Ledger was inconclusive and more tests are needed,” reports The Associated Press.

Heath Ledger, 28, has died in NY today at 3:35pm.   Lying face down the his bedroom of his SoHo Apartment, Heath was reportedly found by his housekeeper.  There were prescription pills found scattered near his body (they appear to be sleeping pills).

Reportedly Ledger had a scheduled massage appointment and when the masseuse arrived at his house, the housekeeper let the masseuse in.  The housekeeper went to tell Ledger about the appointment, but Ledger didn’t open his bedroom door.  The housekeeper found Ledger unconscious and called 911.

According to reports, Heath was found lying naked and unconscious on a bed with “pills scattered around his body.” When paramedics responded, the actor “was in full cardiac arrest. They attempted to perform CPR on him, but were unsuccessful.”

Meanwhile, NYPD spokeswoman Stephanie Jaramillo refused to comment on the cause of death, saying only that “the investigation is still ongoing.”

Update:A rep for Heath Ledger’s family says the Brokeback Mountain actor’s death was accidental, with an autopsy scheduled for tomorrow.

Yesterday we showed you the picture on the right of ANNA NICOLE SMITH that was being called a so-called “death photo” but we can report that it is in fact an image of the late model goofing around and fully aware that she is being photographed.

The digital time stamp from the camera shows that the above picture on the left, with Anna Nicole looking playfully into the lens, was taken eight seconds before the shot on the right.

Although some Web sites were saying these photos were taken moments after Anna Nicole died, they were actually taken January 12 in the Bahamas in Anna’s bedroom.

Anna Nicole’s longtime friend HOWARD K. STERN told us that these were just a couple of shots in a series where Anna Nicole was joking around and, while eating her favorite fish sandwich, got tartar sauce on her face.

A photo of an overdosed Anna Nicole Smith passed out in her own vomit a few days before her death has leaked to the Web. An unidentified figure close to Playboy’s one-time Playmate of the Year snapped a photo of the mother to sell to the press.

“Shortly after I was retained by Howard Stern, I received firsthand information that MOE BRIGHTHAUPT (”Big Moe”) had contacted tabloids offering for sale one or more photographs of Anna Nicole Smith. Yesterday, photographs of Anna Nicole and Dannielynn were posted on various Internet websites. These photographs are the property of the Estate of Anna Nicole Smith and were stolen from her camera shortly after her death. Big Moe denies selling the photographs but admits that he is distributing them. His misappropriation of Estate property is unlawful and his stated motives for doing so are not credible.

“This is another egregious example of deceit and manipulation by individuals and certain members of the media to profit from Anna Nicole’s death. Even more disturbing is the fact that selective photographs have been distributed – intentionally selected to make Anna Nicole and others appear in a false light. Fortunately, the memory card stolen from the camera had been downloaded before it was stolen and the Estate is in possession of every photograph in the series. The other photographs clearly show that Anna Nicole, as she often did, was merely playing for the camera.

“The Estate shall pursue all available remedies against any individual or entity involved in the unauthorized distribution or publication of these, or any other, stolen photographs.”

A spokesperson for “Big Moe,” PAUL PORTER, says:

“After reading the statement of attorney L. Lin Wood we find it necessary to respond to a series of erroneous comments. Big Moe has never stolen anything, including a memory card shortly after the untimely death of Anna Nicole Smith. Claims of profiting from Anna Nicole’s death are equally disturbing. Big Moe would never seek to profit from the disturbing photographs on various Internet websites.

“In regard to L. Lin Wood’s comment regarding deceit and manipulation the pictures in question through focused eyes speak for themselves. If playing for the camera included Anna Nicole Smith vomiting, L. Lin Wood has taken spin to a new level.

“Big Moe continues to mourn the death of his close friends, but continues to question why pictures on Anna Nicole Smith were ever taken in the first place.”
